Why a Guy Who Built Luxury Products by Hand Is the One Doing This

Before Built to Cite, I spent over two decades as a hands-on entrepreneur, designing, building, and selling a luxury, custom-fabricated product line to high-end residential and hospitality clients. No middlemen, no account managers, no factory overseas doing the actual work while someone else took the call. If a client had a question, they got me. If something needed to be fixed, I fixed it.

That business taught me two things that have nothing to do with AI and everything to do with how I run this one. First: precision matters more than speed, and a client can always tell the difference. Second: the person who understands the work at a technical level and the person who talks to the client should be the same person. Every time those two roles get split apart, something gets lost in translation — and the client is the one who pays for it.

When I started paying attention to how AI engines were beginning to answer customer questions instead of just listing links, I recognized the shift immediately, because I’d already lived through one. The businesses that adapted early to how customers actually found and evaluated them won. The ones that waited spent years trying to catch up. I wasn’t interested in waiting this time.

How I Work

Then I build it. The copy, the structure, the schema — all of it, by me, tested against how AI engines actually pull and cite information, not guessed at. When it’s live, I track whether it’s actually getting cited, not just whether it ranks. If it’s not working, you hear that from me directly, and we fix it.
