The AI-Ready Site Architecture, Part 5: FAQ

This is Part 5, the final post in a five-part series on the minimum viable site architecture for AI citation — pages such as: About, Projects, Service Areas, Pricing, and FAQ. Part 4 covered Pricing, the direct-answer layer. We close the series with the page that ties all four before it together: FAQ.

What This Page Is For, From AI’s Perspective

FAQPage schema is one of the most directly extractable formats that exists. AI answer engines are, at their core, answering questions — and a page that’s already structured as question-and-answer is the closest thing to a pre-formatted response a model can find. There’s very little translation work between “what’s on the page” and “what gets cited.”

Schema for this page: FAQPage, with each question marked as a Question and each answer as an Answer, matching the markup shown at the top of this post.

The Great Version

  • Real questions pulled from actual customer calls, texts, and emails — not invented, generic filler
  • Concise, direct-answer-first responses — lead with the answer, add context after
  • Correct FAQPage markup that actually validates, not just visually styled accordion text with no schema behind it

Example worth studying: the two questions marked up at the top of this very post — “How long does a project like this take?” and “Do you serve areas outside your primary zip code?” — are the kind of plain, specific, frequently-asked questions that make this format work. No cleverness required.

The Bad Version

The pattern we see constantly: three or four generic filler questions (“What are your hours?” “Do you offer financing?”) with no schema markup behind them at all — just styled text that looks like an FAQ but functions as ordinary paragraphs to any crawler reading the page.

The Interlink Mechanic

FAQ is the connective tissue of the whole series — it’s the one page built to touch all four others:

  • Links out to Pricing — cost-related questions
  • Links out to Service Areas — coverage-related questions
  • Links out to About — credential and history-related questions
  • Links out to Projects — “have you done this before” questions, answered with a direct example

Closing the Series

Five pages, each answering a different question type AI is already being asked. About confirms you’re real. Projects proves you’ve done the work. Service Areas proves where. Pricing answers what it costs. FAQ catches everything else and threads back through all four. Built and interlinked together, they’re not five separate pages anymore. They’re one entity, and that’s exactly how AI is built to read them.
